Jaguar Land Rover wants to tap the UK government's £2.3 billion funding package for vehicle manufacturers to the tune of £781 million to prevent ‘devastating' damage to the company.A few days ago the company said it had already applied to the European Investment Bank for £281m in loans - the cash is part of the overall package arrangement.
India's Tata Group, which owns JLR, has now warned the government that it needs another £500m or further job cuts are inevitable.

Jaguar Land Rover bids for European Bank cashJaguar Land Rover has asked the European Investment Bank for up to £281 million in emergency funding under the UK Government's £2.3 billion car bailout scheme announced in January.
The carmaker's application for funding comes as it continues negotiations with Business Secretary Lord Mandelson for a second instalment of rescue funds.
Lord Mandelson's scheme to support the motor industry is split into two parts - producers can apply for loans of up to £1.3bn from the European Investment Bank, as well as a further £1bn from the UK Government to help fund greener vehicles. (Daily Mail: March 24).
